No matter how hard you try, you’re going to end up with some scratches on your UTV windshield. It’s inevitable to have the typical wear and tear that comes along with a lot of fun on the trails.
While scratches on your windshield can be disheartening, there are a few ways how to remove scratches from a UTV windshield. We’re here to help you get your windshield back into perfect condition before your next ride.
Whatever material your windshield is made out of, you can always fill the scratches and buff them down to make your windshield nearly as good as new.
Scratches on Glass Windshields
There are two main ways to get scratches out of a glass windshield. First, you can buff the scratch out with a homemade solution, or you can fill it in with a more commercial product.
If you want to go the homemade route, grab a bit of baking soda and water. The coarseness of the solution will act like gentle sandpaper to smooth down the surface and get rid of minor scratches.
You can also use hand soaps with a coarse material in them or even toothpaste. Apply the product and use a hand buffer to get the best results.
If you want to fill the scratch because it’s deeper or you don’t trust using baking soda, you can use something like Brasso metal polish, or just clear liquid nail polish. The process is the same as before, apply and then buff. You’ll see a cloudy spot after using nail polish, but you can clean that off easily with a nail polish remover.
Acrylic and Polycarbonate Windshields
Plastic polishing liquids are one of the best ways to get scratches out of your plastic windshields. Using something like Novus No. 3 to start off and then working your way down to one will give you the best finish.
Your other option is to just buff out the scratches with a fine sandpaper or plastic polishing tool. This is essentially removing all of the surface around the scratch to make it smooth again, so over time you’ll start to wear down your windshield. No matter what, you’ll get a clean and smooth surface back!
